“In Putin’s Russia, Law Is Only a Tool”

On November 30, Pavel Khodorkovsky, president of the Institute of Modern Russia, took part in a Princeton University discussion panel entitled “Trials of Mikhail Khodorkovsky: A Symposium on Russia and the Rule of Law.” The event featured presentations by a number of prominent experts on Russian affairs and the rule of law and was followed by a screening of Cyril Tuschi’s documentary Khodorkovsky.

IMR Discusses Corruption at the 44th ASEEES Convention

On November 17th, the Institute of Modern Russia held a panel at the 44th Annual Convention of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) in New Orleans. The panel’s theme of “No Boundaries for the Russian Government’s Corruption” addressed this critical issue from an interdisciplinary perspective. Panelists Vladimir Rimskiy, Evgeniya Khilji, and Sasha de Vogel presented their papers, with IMR Advisor Ekaterina Mishina participating as discussant.

IMR to Showcase “Life with HIV/AIDS and TB” Exhibition in Moscow

Details

On November 23rd, an exhibition of New York photographer Mikhail Friedman depicting the lives of HIV/AIDS and TB patients in Russia, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine, will open at Moscow’s Fotosoyuz Gallery; and on November 27th, the Sakharov Center will host a conference dedicated to the memory of Vasily Aleksanyan. Both events form part of the Institute of Modern Russia’s project “HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis: IMR Against Social Indifference.”

IMR hosts reception for a new book by Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Natalia Gevorkyan

On October 25th, the Institute of Modern Russia hosted a reception honoring the publication of Mikhail Khodorkovsky's new book, Putin's Prisoner, co-authored by well-known Russian journalist Natalia Gevorkyan. The book launch, which took place at New York’s 3-Legged Dog Gallery, marked the ninth anniversary of the arrest of the then-head of Yukos Oil Company and now Russia’s most prominent political prisoner.

Pavel Khodorkovsky, President of the Institute of Modern Russia (IMR), is scheduled to make a speech introducing his father's long-awaited memoir. Moscow Protests Echo in Brooklyn

On September 30th, the Institute of Modern Russia (IMR) and InterArt Gallery presented a multimedia program on the Russian protest movement at the Brooklyn Public Library. The event unfolded in three acts: the screening of an acclaimed documentary “Winter, Go Away!”, the showcasing of a photographic exhibition “Unfrozen Winter,” and a roundtable discussion with IMR president Pavel Khodorkovsky, journalist and historian Vladimir Kara-Murza, and editor of “Novaya Kozha” almanac Igor Satanovsky.
