U.S. Experts Discuss Whether Russia’s RT Should Be Registered as a Foreign Agent

On September 8th, the Atlantic Council helda panel event on the legal status of the Kremlin-sponsored media outlet, RT, vis-à-vis the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). Participants discussed the challenges that RT poses to the United States, as well as steps policymakers can take to mitigate its influence domestically. The event also featured a brief introduction to Elena Postnikova’s report, “Agent of Influence,” which makes a case for labeling RT a “foreign agent” under FARA.

IMR Held Discussions on the Future of Russia’s Democratic Movement and on Justice in the Nemtsov Case

On September 13, the Institute of Modern Russia participated in two expert panels in Washington, D.C. The first event, dedicated to the prospects of the democratic movement in Russia, took place in the U.S. Capitol Hill Visiting Center with the support of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and Free Russia Foundation. The second event was hosted by the Atlantic Council where experts discussed issues of Russia’s justice system in the light of the recent verdict in the Nemtsov case.
