20 years under Putin: a timeline

June 1, 2011

On May 31st another protest action was held in front of the mission of the Russian Federation to the UN (New York). As the weather was warm and welcoming, almost 20 people showed up.

Their main demand was the resignation of the Russian prime-minister Vladimir Putin, an immediate release of Khodorovsky and Lebedev, recently declared ‘prisoners of conscience’ by Amnesty International, and re-establishment of the basic human freedoms, such as of speech and of assembly in Russia. Similar actions took place in Moscow and London.

The New York protest was followed by a friendly picnic in Central Park.
